Handy Tips to Maintain Your Washing Machine

It’s a really great idea to perform some preventative maintenance on your washing machine to make sure it lasts as long as possible. This will also help prevent you from needing to call an appliance repair specialist more than you’d prefer. If you need to, you can always contact us for appliance repair.

However, try these simple things to reduce the likelihood you’ll need a service call for your washing machine.

  1. Check the hoses that came with your washing machine because sometimes they can leak or burst. You should, periodically, check the hoses for signs of wear or weakening in the plastic. If you get in the habit of doing this, you might find that there is a small blister-like bubble that can burst. If you see that, replace the hose (but don’t forget to shut the water off before unhooking the hose. If you don’t water could go anywhere and if its hot, it might burn or scald someone, so be careful).
  2. Consider switching plastic hoses to stainless steel hoses.
  3. Make sure the washing machine is level and all 4 feet touch the floor. If not, its probably why you hear your washing machine banging around, shaking violently or even moving around the floor. This is really hard on the parts in the washer and causes a lot of ‘internal bleeding.
  4. Keep your washer clean too. Washers are typically made of painted steel or even porcelain-coated steel cabinets. It’s perfectly safe to go ahead and clean the surface with some dish soap.
  5. Make sure you clean out the lint trap if needed. Most washing machines collect lint during the wash cycle and will dispose of it in the drain during the draining part of the cycle. If your machine is a Maytag, however, you might need to clean the lint that collects in the center tube of the agitator every once in a while. In other machines, you might need to remove the lint from a filter located inside of the washing machine near the top of the tub.

Of course, if you ever need help with these things or with repair for washing machines or any other home appliance, you should contact us!

Refrigerator Repair – What to try before calling for service

Thinking you need refrigerator repair?

If there was an award for the hardest working appliance in your home, I would have to give it to your refrigerator. Think about what it actually does, it works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year keeping your food cool and fresh. If the contents of your refrigerator seem to be warmer than usual and you are sure the door was not left open, your food might be getting warm and starting to spoil. There are many problems that can occur with a refrigerator. The good news is that not all of them will require an expensive appliance service call. All it takes to fix them in a few simple observations and changes to your daily routine to hopefully resolve them.

The refrigerator seems to be working hard and not cooling as it should.

If you think your refrigerator is working harder than usual or not cooling like normal, you should check to see if the condenser coils are covered in dust. If you have pets in the house their hair might also likely be gathering up on the coils. Those coils are designed to cool off the heat that’s generated because of your refrigerator’s efforts. With all that dust building up and acting as insulation, your refrigerator has to work harder to do its job. You can simply remove that dust by using your home vacuum cleaners hose to suck it all off. An inexpensive coil brush can be purchased to help clean off the coils. To prevent this problem in the future try this trick – cover the vent panel with something similar to old pantyhose material. It keeps dust from covering the coils but still allows air to circulate and cool everything down as they should do. Of course, if the coils are clean and the fridge still feels overheated, it’s time to call up Sarah’s Appliance Repair.

Excessive ice build-up in the freezer

If your refrigerator is “frost-free” and you notice there is an excessive amount of frost built up on the contents of the freeze you might have an issue. Frost build up around the contents of the freezer usually indicates that there is outside air intrusion. First, clean off the frost so you are sure that the problem was not something as simple as leaving the door open for a short period of time. If the frost reappears in a few days take a close look at the door seal. Grime could cause a poor seal and allow air to seep into the freezer. Clean the door seal as well as the area of the freezer that the door seal touches. If the seal is damaged or not making contact an appliance repair professional is probably needed.

Sarah’s Appliance Repair offers honest and professional diagnostics and speedy refrigerator repairs at a fair value. We offer fast refrigerator repairs in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and the East Mountains.

Types of Stoves Available

Technology evolves at an astonishing rate in every field on the planet. The field of appliances is no different, and new and exciting types of machines are becoming available every day. When it comes to kitchen appliances, an important piece of equipment to purchase is a stove. There are three main types of stoves available on the market, and to help you sort them out, Sarah’s Appliance, an appliance servicer in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has prepared this article detailing these three main types.

Gas stove

If you have to spark your stove to get it started and you can see fire coming out of your elements, you’re using a gas stove, which cooks food pretty quickly. It also cooks it more evenly. That being said, you need to be wary of safety issues, especially if you have young children in your household. Failure to use the stove correctly can result in serious burns and injuries.

Electrical stove

This is the most common type of stove and mainly come in two models: flat-surfaced or with spiral elements sticking out. The former is usually made of ceramic and will usually work a bit better than the latter. While they are the cheapest the purchase, they can become costly in the long run due to the high amount of electricity they require to function properly. Moreover, they are a bit less efficient than gas stoves.

Induction stove

If you want the best of both worlds of security and efficiency, go for an induction stove. While more costly than either of the aforementioned options, they do perform a lot better and are a lot safer. An induction stove works with a magnetic system that heats up your food and pots but leaves the surface completely cold, so even if you stick your hand on it right after removing a pot (which can be burning hot), there is not any danger of burn or injury. This is a safe option if you have children and want to save time and electricity with your stove. Understandably, this model will require a bigger initial investment.

If you have any questions regarding the different types of stoves or if you need stove service in Albuquerque, be sure to get in touch with Sarah’s Appliance for quick and efficient repair at a fair price.

Preventative Maintenance Tips on Dryers

When we purchase appliances, it is always a costly investment, which is why we want to last as long as possible. Not only that, placing a service call can become costly if an issue that could have been solved in a matter of minutes is left to aggravate. While Sarah’s Appliances offers some of the best appliance repair prices in Albuquerque, New Mexico, it also strives to help all its customers fix minor problems themselves. This is why they have provided a couple of simple tips to follow to ensure proper maintenance of your drying machine.

How Your Drying Machine Works

You basically have a cylinder that starts rotating once you start a cycle. Air, which will be heated at a certain temperature depending on your selection, is blown in the machine and eventually makes them dry. The hot air is then evacuated via the exhaust pipe.

Keep It Clean!

Accumulation of debris in the lint trap can cause the machine to overheat, but that lint can catch fire, so you need to be very careful. Clean the lint trap after every cycle and make sure you check the pipes every once in a while and vacuum them if necessary.

Checki For Damaged Equipment

Run your hand around the edges of the door when the dryer is working. If you feel a lot of hot air coming out, you may be dealing with a damaged door gasket, which prevents the door from closing properly.

Don’t Overload It

Thinking that the last pair of jeans you stick in won’t have any effect on your dryer? Think again. Overloading your dryer can prevent the clothes from drying properly and can also damage the rotating mechanism. When in doubt, you should do two drying cycles and split your clothes in two.

If you run any issue that you are unable to solve, be sure to give Sarah’s Appliance a call if you are in need of a dryer technician in Albuquerque. They will make sure your drying machine is up in no time at a fair price. Be sure to visit their website for more information.

Induction Cooker Troubleshooting

New technologies emerge on a daily basis in every area. The same thing is applicable to appliances for the kitchen. One of these modern advances is induction food preparation. Employing a magnetic field and unique cookware, an induction cooktop will be able to cook a good meal in just a few moments, while a traditional range would have taken a long time for a very similar outcome. Despite the fact that induction cookers currently have several positive aspects, they are subject to problems just as much as any kitchen appliance. That is why Sarah’s Appliance, an appliance repair specialist in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has prepared the following set of typical problems with induction cookers. Be sure you give them a call if your personal problem is not on the list, as Sarah’s Appliance specializes in home appliance service.

Induction cooker turns off during cooking

This can happen for many reasons. It could be because of the automated shut-off function. Change the automatic shut-off feature using your instruction manual. Another cause might just be that instrument has exceeded an overly high temperature. Be certain that the vent gaps are not obstructed.

Induction doesn’t turn on

The control buttons could be locked. Set the controls to unlock it. See the instruction manual if required. Make certain no fuse has blown and no breaker has tripped.

Element far too warm or is not hot enough

Check your current control setting and raise/lower setting until the wanted temperature is attained. Make certain you are using flat-bottom cookware and not warped pans and that the cookware you are using is not going to influence the heating on the induction stove.

Element cannot heat the food

Once more, many factors can lead to this problem. Perhaps it is a result of a lack of electricity to the induction stovetop caused by a breaker or fuse issue. The cooking control settings can also be improper. The cookware you are currently using is probably not made for induction cooking. It may also not be placed properly. Make certain that the cookware surface area is lying totally on the induction cooker surface.

If it happens that the situation you are encountering with your induction cooker is not listed above, or if perhaps the tricks supplied cannot allow you to correct it, call up Sarah’s Appliance immediately for fast appliance repair in Albuquerque.

Main Types of Refrigerators

With the advancement of technology, many refrigerators are now available, depending on your taste and needs. Sarah’s Appliance, an appliance repair company in Albuquerque, is used to dealing with different types of fridges every day. Sarah’s Appliance specializes in home appliances repair and has summarized the common types of refrigerators available out there.

Side-by-Side Refrigerators

Contrary to the first type, Side-by-Side refrigerators feature fridge and freezer compartments next to each other, both taking up full length of the appliance. Both are also opened from a door in the middle of the fridge. This type of fridge is good for narrow kitchens, although the space available is reduced. Bigger items like frozen pizzas might not fit horizontally in this type of fridge. This model tends to be a little more expensive than basic Top-Freezer or Bottom-Freezer basic models.

Top-Freezer and Bottom-Freezer Refrigerators

These two types are the most commonly used refrigerators. They have a lot of room to store food, and the freezer section makes up about a third of the unit’s size. The name is pretty self-explanatory: the freezer will be on top or on the bottom of the fridge depending on the model you choose. These two types of refrigerators cost less money than other models, though Bottom-Freezer fridges are a little more expansive than their Top-Freezer equivalents, and the freezer opens like a drawer instead of a door.

French Door Fridges

Combining side-by-side design with a bottom freezer, French Door refrigerators offer the best of both worlds, as they contain wide shelves in both sections. Most models offer water and ice dispensers. These advantages come at a price, as French Door refrigerators are among the most expensive models available.

Although many other models are available, the three models listed above are the most common ones you will come across. If you have any questions about different models of refrigerators or if you need to refrigerator service in Albuquerque, get in touch with Sarah’s Appliance today.

Samsung Microwave Troubleshooting

Samsung is mostly known for its smartphones and televisions. However, this company also manufactures home appliances like microwaves and refrigerators. The purpose of this article is to help you troubleshoot your microwave before resourcing to an appliance technician. Sarah’s Appliance, an appliance servicer in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is giving you the following guidelines to fix common Samsung microwave problems.

Light bulb fails to work

The light bulb is probably burnt out and has to be changed. Remove the outer cover (at the back of the microwave) and change the light bulb. Is this does not solve the problem, change the light socket. If doing so still does not fix the problem, you will need the help of an appliance technician.

Microwave is loud or noisy

This is caused by an old or damaged magnetron tube. Normally, it is not dangerous to use a microwave when it makes these noises, but they mean that the magnetron is almost dead. You will have to replace it.

Microwave works but doesn’t heat

This problem can be caused by a number of factors. However, it is mostly due to a defective piece inside the microwave causing the electric circuit to fault. Finding the right piece to repair or change can often be costly and long, buying a new microwave is usually cheaper.

Microwave turntable doesn’t turn

This is most likely because the turntable motor has worn out. This is a relatively common problem and replacing the turntable motor is not too complicated. Refer to your instruction manual.

These issues are some of the most common problems that occur with microwaves. It is however possible that you encounter a problem that is not listed above. If this is the case, you should call Sarah’s Appliance for prompt appliance service in Albuquerque. Their certified technicians will get your microwave (or any other defective house appliance) up and running in no time. Call them today to book an appointment.

How to Make Sure your Gas Oven Is Set To The Right Temperature

How do you make sure your gas oven is set to the right temperature?

So, you were baking cookies and almost broke a tooth biting into them? Your cake came out dry and flat? It probably means that the temperature adjustment on your gas oven is not set properly. In this article, we are providing you with a surprisingly easy way to adjust your oven to make sure your gas oven is set to the right temperature.

First, you will need to run a simple test on your oven to find out if the temperature it displays is accurate. To perform this, you will need an oven thermometer (available at most grocery stores). They go for around 10$. Place this thermometer on the rack in the center of your oven, also making sure to follow instructions provided with the device.

Set the temperature for 350 degrees. Once the oven reaches the correct temperature, let it run for 15 minutes and check the temperature displayed on your thermometer. Then, let your oven run for another 5 minutes and check again. Repeat the process and check it a third time five minutes later.  If the average temperature is between 340 and 360, your oven temperature is correct.

If the temperature is outside of that interval, you will need to adjust the temperature by going behind your oven. Pull firmly to pop the knob out. You should then see two screws holding the degree markings in place. Take a look to see where the gauge currently points. Loosen the screws to reposition the numbers to match the temperature in the oven.  Tighten the screws again and then replace the knob on the oven. Perform another test.

If performing this check-up has not solved your issue, call us at Sarah’s Appliance Repair at 505-835-1927 or text us at 505-388-0900 to schedule services for your gas oven. We are also happy to help with any other issues you may be experiencing with other home appliances!
