HE Washer and Dryer Installation and Repair

Modern laundry machines include features that were unheard of only a few years ago. These new abilities save energy (HE: High Efficiency), use less water and energy and provide convenient options for you to control them remotely. These wonderful additions improve these appliances, of course, but also complicate matters when they are installed or when a repair is required. So, if your new washer or dryer needs to be repaired, and you are asking yourself, “Where is a washer and dryer repair service near me?”, there are some items to consider in making your choice.

HE Washer and Dryer

What Does HE Mean for Me?

HE washers and dryers are designed to save their owners money by using less water and energy to operate than traditional appliances. They use sensors to determine how long clothes need to be dried and can add detergent and other laundry additives automatically during the cleaning process to maximize their efficiency. Dual tub machines are now available that can be used for delicate loads or clothes that need extra cleaning and you can even control them via digital personal assistants or voice control. These functions combine to make appliances that perform better than their ancestors and offer many conveniences that were never available previously.

Sophistication Can Mean Complication!

These additional features are state-of-the-art, and the repair service that you call needs the knowledge and technical ability to repair the specialized sensors, computer components and machinery that are now standard in these appliances. Repairing or installing these sophisticated appliances is not a job for a rookie, and you need to call someone who has the skills and expertise to do the job right. Protect your investment and have an expert provide service and installation for your HE washers and dryers and relax in the comfort of your high-tech laundry appliances!

How to Take Better Care of Your Appliances

Taking care of all of your household appliances will ensure they last their entire life expectancy.

Appliances have become such a part of our day-to-day life, that we find ourselves taking advantage of them. When they break down or stop working, we realize how much we use and need them. Thankfully, there are tasks we can do to ensure our appliances stay maintained and working, using up their full life expectancy.

Here are some care tips for a few of the major appliances found in your home:

Refrigerator

  • The best place to start with taking better care of your refrigerator is the condenser coils. When your refrigerator’s condenser coils become dusty, they work less efficiently, resulting in wasted energy being used to try to keep the refrigerator’s temperature cool. Condenser coils should be cleaned every six months by brushing and vacuuming up debris.
  • It would also be a good idea to the clean the refrigerator’s doors gaskets to keep warm temperature out and to help the refrigerator not work as hard.

Washing Machine

  • A washing machine is similar to a dryer in the sense that they both have filters.traps. Like dryers, a washing machine filter (some are not accessible) should also be cleaned regularly. Cleaning the filter will keep your clothes free of lint and will extend your washing machine’s life.
  • Checking your washing machines hoses would also help keep your machine maintained and working properly.

Dryer

  • The first thing you will want to do to take better care of your dryer is to clean the lint filter every time you put in a load. About ⅓ of dryer-related fires are caused by lint filters that are dirty and full. Removing the lint every time you run your dryer will keep it maintained and safe.
  • You will also want to have the dryer vent tubes professionally inspected and cleaned at least once a year.

At Sarah’s Appliance Repair, we can come inspect and fix any and all appliances you may have. We can come to ensure you are taking the best care of your appliances and make sure they’re in the best shape. Call us today to schedule an appointment if you have a broken appliance or need a maintenance check.

The 5 Most Common Oven Problems

Here are the 5 most common oven problems you need to look out for.

Whether you’re cooking dinner for a small family or for a party of 20,  oven problems can bring the evening to a screeching halt. If you want to keep your oven working smoothly for years to come, here are the 5 most common oven problems you’ll need to look out for and how to fix them:

  • Incorrect oven temperature
  • Doesn’t turn on
  • The door won’t open
  • Self-clean doesn’t work
  • The light doesn’t work

Incorrect oven temperature

A preheated oven should maintain the temperature that it’s set too. If your food is consistently coming out undercooked or the temperature always reads higher than you’ve set it to, you may need to have the temperature controls re-calibrate If your model allows. Some of the entry-level models will have higher fluctuation then some of the high-end models.

The oven doesn’t turn on

If your oven isn’t turning on, check the circuit breakers and then make sure the oven is plugged in. If it is receiving power, there could be a broken wire, bad control element, or wrong amount of power coming to the unit. If this case, it would be a good idea to turn the power to the oven off at the breaker and call a professional. Because the problem is electrical and could be internal or external, you shouldn’t turn it into a DIY project which could result in an injury or damage to property.

The oven door won’t open

If your oven door does not open after a self-clean cycle, try unplugging it for at least 5-minutes and carefully move the door lock lever. If that doesn’t work, reset the self-clean cycle and wait for 15-minutes, then cancel it and try moving the door lock lever once the oven has cooled off. If the door still won’t open give Sarah’s Appliance Repair a call.

The self-clean feature doesn’t work

If the self-clean cycle isn’t working, it’s typically because the door switch isn’t locking properly. If that’s not the case, your oven may need to be tested and inspected by a repair professional.

The internal oven light doesn’t turn on

If your oven light isn’t working and you’ve already replaced the bulb, there could be a chance of a faulty light switch, electronic control, or wire connection. In this matter, you may want to hire a professional due to the risk of electric shock or greater damage to the unit.

Sarah’s Appliance Repair has years of experience fixing appliances, like your broken or malfunctioning oven. If you are having issues with your oven, call us today and we will get your oven back to working like new. Tips to Save Money and Energy

Keep your household appliances energy efficient with these helpful tips.

Energy Star certified appliances come with several great benefits such as discounts, rebates and a much lower energy bills. Taking full advantage of those benefits and saving as much money as possible, however, involves professional annual inspections and cleanings.

Here are tips to ensure you are getting the most out of your energy efficient appliances.

Refrigerators:

  • Regulate the inside temperature by keeping your fridge stocked but not filling it to its maximum capacity causing it to restrict the airflow.
  • Clean door seals and replace them when they break.
  • Once a year, clean the condenser coils to keep the airflow passages free of dust and debris.

Ovens:

  • Wipe up spills as soon as the oven has cooled down.
  • Like the fridge, keep the door seal clean and replace it when it breaks.
  • Cooking frozen foods works the oven longer and uses a lot of energy so instead, try to cook fresh or thawed foods in the oven.

Dishwashers:

  • Only start your dishwasher once it is completely full of dishes.
  • Clean the filters regularly to remove any debris.

Washers:

  • Decrease the number of cycles by washing “Large” loads
  • Avoid “Extra Large” loads, they can become overfull and spill water over the top as well as put unnecessary strain on the motor and internal components.
  • Wash you loads of laundry with cold water rather than warm or hot.

Dryers:

  • Get your dryer cabinet and exhaust vent cleaned once a year by a professional or by yourself.
  • Keep lint filters free of lint, cleaning every time you put in a load of laundry.
  • If your lint filter is clogged by a translucent film (caused by dryer sheets) wash it by hand with a mild dish soap and scrub brush.

Water Heaters:

  • Drain sediment from your tank every six months.
  • Water heater’s temperature should be set at 120° which is high enough for your needs and high enough to reduce mineral buildup.

Taking good care of your Energy Star certified appliances and getting them annually inspected will save you money each year. Contact Sarah’s Appliance Repair to schedule your professional inspection which will ensure your appliances are in great working condition, saving you money in the long run.

Get Your Dryer Vents Cleaned

New Home? Get Your Dryer Vents Cleaned

The leading causes of home fires can be prevented by having your dryer vents cleaned

Modern lint filters do a good job of catching debris from your clothes, but even when they’re cleaned regularly, they don’t catch everything. Lint can build up slowly inside your dryer, in the ventilation hose and even inside your wall!

A clog at any point in this chain can cause your dryer to overheat, and the three things needed for a fire to start are heat, oxygen, and fuel (lint).

How do you know if your dryer vent system is clogged? Here are the symptoms to watch for:

  1. Drying time takes longer and longer.
  2. The outside of the dryer is hot.
  3. There is a burning smell.
  4. The vent hood flap does not open correctly.
  5. It’s been longer than a year since the vents have been checked.

Before moving into a home, it is very important to ask when the dryer vents were last checked and cleaned. If it has been longer than a year, you may want to call Sarah’s Appliance Repair to come out and get them back into tip-top shape.

Prevent a fire in your home and call Sarah’s Appliance Repair today.

Handy Tips to Maintain Your Washing Machine

It’s a really great idea to perform some preventative maintenance on your washing machine to make sure it lasts as long as possible. This will also help prevent you from needing to call an appliance repair specialist more than you’d prefer. If you need to, you can always contact us for appliance repair.

However, try these simple things to reduce the likelihood you’ll need a service call for your washing machine.

  1. Check the hoses that came with your washing machine because sometimes they can leak or burst. You should, periodically, check the hoses for signs of wear or weakening in the plastic. If you get in the habit of doing this, you might find that there is a small blister-like bubble that can burst. If you see that, replace the hose (but don’t forget to shut the water off before unhooking the hose. If you don’t water could go anywhere and if its hot, it might burn or scald someone, so be careful).
  2. Consider switching plastic hoses to stainless steel hoses.
  3. Make sure the washing machine is level and all 4 feet touch the floor. If not, its probably why you hear your washing machine banging around, shaking violently or even moving around the floor. This is really hard on the parts in the washer and causes a lot of ‘internal bleeding.
  4. Keep your washer clean too. Washers are typically made of painted steel or even porcelain-coated steel cabinets. It’s perfectly safe to go ahead and clean the surface with some dish soap.
  5. Make sure you clean out the lint trap if needed. Most washing machines collect lint during the wash cycle and will dispose of it in the drain during the draining part of the cycle. If your machine is a Maytag, however, you might need to clean the lint that collects in the center tube of the agitator every once in a while. In other machines, you might need to remove the lint from a filter located inside of the washing machine near the top of the tub.

Of course, if you ever need help with these things or with repair for washing machines or any other home appliance, you should contact us!

Refrigerator Repair – What to try before calling for service

Thinking you need refrigerator repair?

If there was an award for the hardest working appliance in your home, I would have to give it to your refrigerator. Think about what it actually does, it works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year keeping your food cool and fresh. If the contents of your refrigerator seem to be warmer than usual and you are sure the door was not left open, your food might be getting warm and starting to spoil. There are many problems that can occur with a refrigerator. The good news is that not all of them will require an expensive appliance service call. All it takes to fix them in a few simple observations and changes to your daily routine to hopefully resolve them.

The refrigerator seems to be working hard and not cooling as it should.

If you think your refrigerator is working harder than usual or not cooling like normal, you should check to see if the condenser coils are covered in dust. If you have pets in the house their hair might also likely be gathering up on the coils. Those coils are designed to cool off the heat that’s generated because of your refrigerator’s efforts. With all that dust building up and acting as insulation, your refrigerator has to work harder to do its job. You can simply remove that dust by using your home vacuum cleaners hose to suck it all off. An inexpensive coil brush can be purchased to help clean off the coils. To prevent this problem in the future try this trick – cover the vent panel with something similar to old pantyhose material. It keeps dust from covering the coils but still allows air to circulate and cool everything down as they should do. Of course, if the coils are clean and the fridge still feels overheated, it’s time to call up Sarah’s Appliance Repair.

Excessive ice build-up in the freezer

If your refrigerator is “frost-free” and you notice there is an excessive amount of frost built up on the contents of the freeze you might have an issue. Frost build up around the contents of the freezer usually indicates that there is outside air intrusion. First, clean off the frost so you are sure that the problem was not something as simple as leaving the door open for a short period of time. If the frost reappears in a few days take a close look at the door seal. Grime could cause a poor seal and allow air to seep into the freezer. Clean the door seal as well as the area of the freezer that the door seal touches. If the seal is damaged or not making contact an appliance repair professional is probably needed.

Sarah’s Appliance Repair offers honest and professional diagnostics and speedy refrigerator repairs at a fair value. We offer fast refrigerator repairs in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and the East Mountains.
